Setting files for print
Image
Our preferred format is PDF (Portable Document Format).
To produce a PDF distill a postscript file ( Adobe's Acrobat Distiller) The PDF has to be a press quality PDF, set to embed all fonts. For colour PDFs use Acrobat version 4.0 or above ( version 3.0 looks flat). We have current versions of industry standard applications ie. Quark, Powerpoint, Word, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and InDesign
Page make up. Use the correct page size in your application programme, allow for bleed within the document (minimum of 3mm) in print options. Include tick marks and bleed (using crop marks may require a larger page size on output printing ie. A4 with crops would be produced within an A3 output print. Indicate if CMYK or special colours apply - supply a Pantone ref if you can.
*Colours on a monitor screen differ radically from those of a press printed copy - so include a colour proof if you can.
Images. Ensure EPS graphics contain fonts, a minimum input of 300dpi is recommended. Images should be TIFF or EPS. If supplying a JPEG save it at maximum quality, supply colour images as CMYK versions not as RGB or LAB.
Fonts. Fonts can be a major cause of print problems due to variations of type or font substitution, ie. Times for example has versions Times New Roman, Times and Times Roman, each has differing design, kerning and tracking values. Producing a PDF helps to eliminate font problems by showing a true representation of the finished document. Fonts supplied must comply with current legal requirements.
Submission of files. If it is necessary to submit an application file, rather than a PDF file or postscript file,  please make sure all elements to the file are included ie. fonts, images, logos etc. Files can be supplied to us (on CD /USB) or E-mailed.( check your server - it may only be able to send a maximum file size of 5mb )
*Please supply clear written instructions with your work, include a contact number and a colour proof for us to check against - in the abscence of a proof we can only print what we assume to be a correct version of your work.

*NB- Whilst we endevour to be helpful if there are problems with your artwork files - we are not a design company and therefore cannot make major adjustments to your files. Where necessary small amendments can be made, but may be subject to an alteration fee to cover our time in doing so.
